Club Day at Hongdae

Even before our trip to Korea, I made a little research on Seoul’s nightlife and found out that in one of their famous clubbing districts, there is a Club Day on the last Friday of every month, which would conveniently meet our trip’s schedule.
On Club Day, you buy a wrist ticket for about S$20+, and gain access to 7 clubs in the Hongdae area with one free drink. The club culture in Seoul is fantastic. All the clubs are within walking distance, if not beside one another. Basically the whole street is full of clubs specialising in different music genres, not to mention hot guys and girls.
The pretty girl with blond hair is Clara’s friend Geena, and also a member of indie rock band Rock Tigers. Rock Tigers’ concept is so cute. Due to the fact that their songs are rock n’ roll influenced, the rest of the guys in the band have Elvis hairstyles!!!!

They were so kind to bring us to a live house where a performance was going on, by the backstage. They brought us to meet Crying Nut, which we at that time were unaware that the said 9-year-old band is very popular among underground rock fans in Korea. There were other indie bands playing besides Crying Nut too. They were fabulous… I wish I knew the lyrics to their songs at that time because everyone else was shouting to their songs and slam dancing away hahahaha
Here’s a short video clip that Clara took of Crying Nut:
We had a few interesting encounters too. We were outside one of the clubs and chatted up with a bunch of people who were Canadian students studying in Korea.
Somehow we ended up making a ruckus because they insisted that Z was pronounced ‘zed‘ instead of the American pronounciation ‘zee‘. Well, in Singapore we are supposed to pronounce it ‘zed’ too, but I was just joking around xD
“How do you pronounce this letter?” (draws a ‘Z’ on my palm)
“This? zed.”
“NO IT’S ZEE”
“zed!”
“ZEE! You’re wrong!!”
“Well, haven’t you heard of Jay-zed?”
Cheeky xD
But they were really fun :)
