Still in a Nook

Been a long time since I’ve read a book other than comics… (Doraemon, Shin Chan and Wanwan to be exact) So courtesy of Amanda, I’ve finished a book, My Best Friend’s Girl. It was a nice read. Kinda bittersweet and mellow in a good way.

Synopsis: What would you do for the friend who broke your heart? Best friends Kamryn Matika and Adele Brannon thought nothing could come between them - until Adele did the unthinkable and slept with Kamryn’s fiance, Nate. Worse still, she got pregnant and had his child. When Kamryn discovered the truth about their betrayal she vowed never to see any of them again.

Two years later, Kamryn receives a letter from Adele asking her to visit her in hospital. Adele is dying and begs Kamryn to adopt her daughter, Tegan. With a great job and a hectic social life, the last thing Kamryn needs is a five year old to disrupt things. Especially not one who reminds her of Nate. But with no one else to take care of Tegan and Adele fading fast, does she have any other choice?

So begins a difficult journey that leads Kamryn towards forgiveness, love, responsibility and, ultimately, a better understanding of herself.

Kit has been staying over at my house for a few days this week. We don’t really do stuff together, usually he sits beside me at my long table. He plays World of Warcraft on his laptop while I er, try my hand at doing really bo liao stuff.

Or it’ll be me lying on my bed reading while he sits at that same spot playing World of Warcraft.

OR. Me outside on the couch watching Discovery/NatGeo/Animal Planet while he plays World of Warcraft. You get the idea.

WoW caused a strain in our relationship at a point one day, when he failed to get his butt off the chair before 2am, because that is the time when my favourite hokkien mee stall at the food court downstairs closes. The day where I had craving for hokkien mee. ARGH!

So where was I… oh yes TV. Sometimes he joins me on the couch and we crack up over Jeff Corwin’s show. He’s a really funny guy! Hahaha!

Corwin makes wildlife seem very ’safe’ and fun, and he seems to know everything about the animal he picks up from the ground, right to their scientific names. A tiny frog, some subspecies of sloth, snakes. It gives you false belief that you can do the same too. I don’t think I can even differentiate Ah Bui from other fat Winter White hamsters…

Okay maybe that was rehearsed, but it makes me wonder what sort of specialists they bring with them on their adventures. I still believe Jeff knows a lot. He’s amazing!
